DOMINION
HERBAL COLLEGE
Established 1926
Registered and Accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency (of BC)
Syllabus
Dominion
Herbal College, was founded by Dr. Herbert Nowell, a Naturopathic
Physician in Vancouver, B.C. in 1926. Prior to 1918, he taught botanical
medicine to medical doctors, when such medicine was accepted and
practised by many in the profession. Dr. Nowell's knowledge in Herbal
Medicine was admired and appreciated by doctors in England, Canada
and the United States. He spent many hours researching and compiling
the material recorded in Books One and Two of the DHC's Chartered
Herbalist Program.
Ella
Birzneck, M.H., continued the tradition and spirit of Dr. Nowell's
love of herbs and natural healing by resurrecting and reorganising
DHC. Many of Ella's favourite remedies accumulated as a result of
a lifetime of experience in Herbal Medicine and other holistic health
methods are contained in Book Three of Chartered Herbalist Program.
Since
1962, members of Ella Birzneck's family have worked to ensure that
the original purpose of the College, which was and still, is to
preserve and nurture the study of Herbal Medicine.
This is accomplished by:
a.) continuing to be the best available source of herbal studies
in North America;
b.) educating students to become competent professionals in
the field of herbal therapy;
c.) advocating close working relationships with all other
health care professionals.
DHC
will continue to light the way in the true North American Herbal
Tradition and to encourage interschool co-operation and unity with
Herbal groups locally, nationally and internationally.
DHC is a Member of the Canadian Herbalists Association of British
Columbia (CHAofBC). Graduates of some of the programs offered by
DHC are eligible for memberships at this association and other herbal
associations.
