ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Since 1989 Dominion Herbal College has been offering a certified clinical course in the science and art of Herbal Therapeutics. The course has been designed to provide the student with a practical working knowledge of herbs, the human body and a philosophical framework for applying herbs as healing agents. The course teaches how the body functions in health and illness, how herbs can affect the functioning of the body, how to assess the relative state of health of an individual and how to choose the correct herbs to treat different ailments.
This 3 year course consists of 35 weeks per year (Semester 1-15 weeks; Semester 2-20 weeks). Students will attend class 20 hours per week. During year 2 and year 3 students will complete 500 clinic hours under supervision. This course requires approximately 20-25 hours per week of homestudy. Total number of hours including classroom, clinic, clinical theory research and elective hours - 3250 hours.

AIMS OF THE PROGRAM
This course is designed to produce competent and responsible practitioners of herbal therapy. At the conclusion of the course students will:
A) Have a sound knowledge of the basic sciences as they relate to herbal therapy.
B) Be competent in the treatment of common disease states by herbal and complementary means.
C) Understand the role that correct nutrition and lifestyle plays in the maintenance of good health.
D) Have an understanding of the limitations of natural therapies and be able to recognise when a patient needs to be referred to medical and/or other health professionals.

WHO THE TAKES PROGRAM
The Clinical Herbal Therapy training program is offered to all individuals with a strong sense of vocation to practice as a clinical herbal therapist. He or she must be in a position to devote the time required for study and must have the discipline and dedication required for this.

POSR EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
There is a steady increase in public interest and demand for natural healing. Herbal Medicine, in particular is enjoying a great resurgence in popularity. Marketing statistics show the increasing use of herbal remedies. Persons trained in the use of herbal medicine are meeting the needs of the market place. The special aim of the Clinical Herbal Therapist Course is to train individuals to be competent and effective in operating a herbal therapy clinic. There are many other areas of work in the herbal field as well: teacher, researcher, writer, retailer, medicine maker, or consultant to the industry. Currently in Canada, as in many countries, there are no government regulations or requirement for registration of herbalists. There is, however, a Herbal Association or Society in many countries, states or provinces, and should you wish to join, you will be expected to meet certain educational standards.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
High School graduate. Introductory Chemistry and Biology or introductory Chemistry and Anatomy and Physiology are required. For those students who have no High School equivalent background in these subjects please enquire about the pre-requisite homestudy courses available at the College. These courses are specially designed for the Herbal Student who has no background in these subjects or has not studied these subjects for some time and needs a refresher course.
