PATHOLOGY
Inflammation and tissue healing, circulatory disorders, clinical
immunology, neoplasia, clinical genetics, gastro-intestinal system,
renal pathology cardiovascular system, respiratory system, musculo-skeletal
system, rheumatology, metabolic disorders, endocrinology and neurology.
ANATOMY
Basic terminology, the cell, embryology, organization of the body,
osteology, arthrology, axial and appendicular skeleton, myology,
skeletal muscles, nervous system, autonomic nervous system, organs
of sense, circulatory system, lymphatic system, digestive system,
respiratory system, urinary system, reproductive system and endocrine
system.
PHYSIOLOGY
Cell physiology, the nerve-muscle unit, central and sensory nervous
systems, circulatory system, respiratory system, body fluids and
the kidneys, digestive and metabolic systems, motor nervous system,
special senses, autonomic nervous system, endocrinology, reproduction,
blood cells, blood coagulation, immunity and calcium metabolism.
HERBAL MATERIA
MEDICA
Remedies grouped according to primary therapeutic action; stimulants,
relaxants, astringents, depuratives, demulcent, antiseptics, diuretics,
cardiovascular agents, diaphoretics, pulmonary agents, hepatic,
cholagogues, gastrointestinal agents and nervines.
CLINICAL
ASSESSMENT
Case taking, approach to physical examination, general symptoms,
skin, head and neck, respiratory system, cardiovascular system,
the breast, the gastro-intestinal system, peripheral vascular system,
musculo-skeletal system and the nervous system.
SECOND YEAR
SEMINAR
Lectures in Materia Medica relevant to the main systems of the body,
covering, cardiovascular, endocrine, gastro-intestinal, genito-urinary,
immune, lymphatic, musculo-skeletal, nervous, reproductive and respiratory
systems and the skin. Introduction to the clinical techniques applied
to the examination of the body in its healthy state. The cardiovascular,
gastro-intestinal, musculo-skeletal, nervous and respiratory systems
will be covered.
EXAMINATIONS
-
Year 2
These comprise written papers in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology
at the end of the Second Year of study. All first and second year
course work should have been submitted before students sit the paper
and both year 1 and year 2 seminar attended. Students may only proceed
to year three upon completion of the aforementioned.
