ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY
Overview of the cells, tissues, systems and cavities of the body;
body fluids, blood, circulatory system, lymphatic system, respiratory
system, digestive system, urinary system, skin, special senses,
endocrine system, reproductive system, the skeleton joints and the
muscular system.
BIOCHEMISTRY
General principles of organic chemistry and biochemistry and its
application to human physiology and phytochemistry, molecules, organization
of the cell, pathways of metabolism, energy-providing reactions,
sources of energy and biosynthetic pathways.
BIOLOGY
The cell, bacteria, viruses, introduction to histology of the tissues
and introduction to nutrition.
BOTANY
Brief overview; morphology, plant anatomy, histology of plant tissues.
HERBAL MATERIA
MEDICA
An overview study of indigenous herbs, Sambucus nigra, Uritca dioica,
Armoracia rusticana, Petroselinum crissum, Crataegus oxyancanthoides,
Lenurus cardiaca, Thymus vulgaris, Allium sativum, Plantago Ianceolata,
Verbena officinalis, Equisetum arvense, Matricaria chamomile, Taraxacum
officinale, Apium graveolens, Juniperus communis, Achillea millefolium,
Calendula officinalis, Valeriana officinalis, Humulus lupulus, Hypericum
perforatum, Salvia officinalis, Humulus lupulus, Hypericum perforatum,

HISTORY
& PRACTICE OF HERBAL MEDICINE
History of Herbal Medicine, the whole person and homeostasis, vitalism,
health and disease, essentials of health, rational therapy, herbal
approach to treatment, pain and its rational treatment, micro-organisms
and disease, the germ theory, poisonous and safe medicines.
FIRST YEAR SEMINAR
Lectures in pharmacognosy and preparation of herbal remedies, microchemical
and microchemical analysis of their constituents. The philosophy
of herbal medicine and basic botany.
EXAMS: No exams
at the end of Year 1.
