Clinical
Herbal Therapy Diploma Program
4 year tutorial Application
The course
provides a comprehensive system of training which includes a study
of the principles and philosophy of clinical herbal therapy, the
definitions, constituents and pharmacology of medicinal plants,
the human body in health and disease, clinical assessment techniques
and a wide range of adjunctive subjects, relevant to the practice
of herbal therapeutics.
The Tutorial
Course covers 4 years and consists of 3 equally important and essential
components:
- Home study
on a tutorial basis entailing 20-30 hours home study per week.
- Students
are required to attend a week long summer seminar each year, these
being held in Vancouver, B.C.
- As well as
regular homework assignments in each subject there are written exams
at the end of the second, third year and fourth year. A practical
clinical exam takes place at the end of the fourth year. Before
proceeding from one year to the next, a satisfactory standard must
be reached. Before sitting for the final exams the student is required
to have completed clinical training for a minimum of 500 hours under
the supervision of a qualified practitioner at the Dominion Herbal
College student training clinics in Vancouver, British Columbia
and Toronto, Ontario.
- A diploma
will be issued upon completion of academic, clinical and financial
requirements to the College.
WHO TAKES
THE PROGRAM
The Clinical Herbal Therapy training program is offered to all individuals
with a strong sense of vocation to practice as a clinical herbal
therapist. He or she must be in a position to devote the time required
for study and must have the discipline and dedication for this.
AIMS OF THE PROGRAM
This course is designed to produce competent and responsible practitioners
of clinical herbal therapy. At the conclusion of the course the
student should:
1. Have a sound knowledge of the basic health sciences as they relate
to
Herbal Medicine
2. Understand
the role that correct nutrition and lifestyle plays in the
maintenance of good health.
3. Be competent
in the assessment and treatment of common disease state
by phytotherapeutic and complementary means.
4. Have an
understanding of the limitations of natural therapies and be able
to recognise when a client needs to be referred to medical and/or
other
health professionals.
ENTRANCE
REQUIREMENTS:
The Tutorial Course is offered to all individuals with a strong
sense of vocation to practice as a clinical herbal therapist. He
or she must be in a position to devote the time required for study
and must have discipline and dedication. To be eligible for the
course you must be a highschool graduate. Chemistry and Biology
at a highschool level or Dominion Herbal College introductory Chemistry
and Anatomy & Physiology are required. Students with university
degrees or other recognised qualifications in anatomy, physiology,
pathology, chemistry or other subjects of the course may be excused
those assignments but the exams must be taken in all subjects
POST GRADUATE
OPPORTUNITIES
There is a steady increase in the public interest in, and demand
for, natural healing. Herbal Medicine in particular is enjoying
a great resurgence in popularity. Marketing statistics show the
increasing use of herbal remedies. Persons trained in the use of
herbal medicine are meeting the needs of the market place. The aim
of this course is to train individuals to be competent and effective
at running a clinical herbal practice. There are many other areas
of work in the herbal field as well: teacher, researcher, writer,
retailer, medicine maker, consultant to the industry and community
resource person
